Costco is where I stock up on dinnertime staples like bread, meat, and cheese. As the primary grocery shopper for my household, I rely on the in-store inspiration to add variety to my meal plans. On a recent warehouse visit, I looked into my cart and saw items that I buy all time time in a whole new way: A package of bakery rolls, sliced cheese, and shortcut sirloin became a simple weeknight dinner that has since earned its place as my family’s most-requested meal. In total it cost $15.32, or $3.82 per sandwich. Here’s how to make these warm steak sandwiches.

Ingredients You’ll Need

To make these sandwiches you need just three ingredients — each of which you can find at Costco. The sandwiches are delicious on their own, but including a few optional extras adds variety in color and flavor without a lot of effort.

Instructions

  1. Let 1 tablespoon unsalted butter sit at room temperature until softened.

  2. Arrange a rack in the middle of the oven and heat the oven to 400°F. Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.

  3. Remove packaging from a 1-pound portion of Cuisine Solutions Sous Vide Sliced Grass-Fed Beef Sirloin. Separate into slices and arrange in the center of the baking sheet, it’s okay if the pieces touch or overlap slightly.

  4. Separate 4 Kirkland Signature artisan rolls into halves and spread the cut sides evenly with the butter. Place cut-side up on a wire rack and fit the rack on the baking sheet over the sliced sirloin.

  5. Bake for 4 minutes. Place 1 slice havarti cheese onto the top half of each roll and continue to bake until the cheese is melted and the rolls and sirloin are warmed through, 30 seconds to 1 minute.

  6. Divide the steak evenly between the bottom halves of the rolls. Top with arugula, caramelized onions, roasted red peppers, and horseradish sauce if desired. Close with the top halves of the rolls.
