The World’s Most Expensive Home for Sale Is Found in New York — And the Kitchen Is Far from What We Expected

A recently listed Manhattan penthouse is being billed as the tallest and most expensive home in the world — and the amenities packed throughout this three-story unit make the $250,000,000 price tag seem almost reasonable.

According to Million Dollar Listing NY star Ryan Serhant — who is handling the listing — the home sits atop a luxury building on West 57th Street and offers views of not only all five boroughs in New York City, but five additional states as well. And that’s just from the terrace off the private balcony, which is reportedly the highest-sitting terrace in the world.

For those who love to entertain at home, but like to keep things private, each floor of this penthouse unit is accessible through a separate entrance. In addition to the outdoor space offering those 360-degree views, the top floor also boasts a private grand ballroom donning additional views of Central Park.

Five of the home’s seven bedroom suites are located on the second floor, along with the master suite — a corner room delivering views of both Central Park and points north. The breathtaking views are echoed in the master bathroom, with a sunken tub sitting right next to one of the many floor-to-ceiling windows found throughout the house. (Spoiler alert: all of the rooms feature floor-to-ceiling windows.)

On the lower level lie two additional bedrooms that can be used for guests or staff; a grand salon; a media room; an observatory; and a huge dining room also boasting views of the city on two sides. 

Then there’s a serving kitchen that, quite frankly, doesn’t match the grandeur of the home itself. Sure it has its own spectacular view, allowing those inside to see all the way to the end of Manhattan Island where the East River and the Hudson River converge, but is definitely a New York City-sized kitchen. Even as far as those go, we’ve seen slightly bigger ones for a fraction of the price (like in Janet Jackson’s recent listing, for example). And according to many who commented on a post about the home on the Luxury Listings Instagram page, the small kitchen is where some of the magic in this slightly hyperbolic listing starts to fade.

The fact is though, that while this might be the most expensive home currently available for purchase, it is not the world’s most expensive home overall. According to Luxe Digital, Buckingham Palace aside, that distinction belongs to a 400,000-square foot mansion called Antilia. Owned by Mukesh Ambani, the wealthiest person in India, the towering 27-story home also gets to claim the “world’s tallest” title.

But if vibes and location are a thing for you, 7 bedrooms, 11 bathrooms, and 17,545-square feet of prime Manhattan real estate seems about right for the price.
