Leave the chocolate to the kiddos and buy yourself an advent calendar that fits your own interests. We’ve already told you that there’s one featuring fancy jams and jellies, and last year Target served us everything we dreamed of with a cheese advent calendar, but this year we’re smitten with this advent calendar featuring 12 half-bottles of wine.

The calendar comes from the site GiveThemBeer.com and costs $169, plus $15 in shipping. Each half-bottle is hidden behind a secret door that you can open on one of the 12 nights leading up to Christmas to find a little vino surprise. The 375-milliliter half-bottles or 187-milliliter splits are a mix of reds, whites, and sparkling wines from well-known vineyards all over the world.

Even though we are still (checks watch) over three months from Christmas, this is the kind of thing that will likely sell out way before the snow falls and people start to think about decking the halls and whatnot. So it’s highly recommended that you order now to send Christmas cheer to family or friends — or even yourself. It won’t ship until late November, so you could even forget about it and open a package to your own surprise and delight come Thanksgiving time.

They won’t tell you exactly what wines you’re going to get, but the FAQ section gives a few hints, with names like Coppola, Meomi, Mumm, Ruffino, Kendall Jackson, and Stemarri. That should be enough to get you inspired to send yourself — er, someone — a present. Just be careful with your shipping information, as you’ll need to have someone 21 or over present to sign for the package, so you might want to have it sent to a work address or a friend that’s home during the day (as long as you trust them not to open it!).
