There are thousands of kitchen gadgets out there — so many that it’s difficult to pin down which ones will make your life easier and which will simply gather dust in the back of a drawer. First and foremost, you should prioritize a gadget’s function over its visual appeal and novelty factor, but that’s not always easy, speaking as someone who loves a quirky item. Still, I don’t have much storage space to spare, so I can’t indulge myself with every cute kitchen item I come across, much to my disappointment.

However, when I can, I make it my mission to find items that marry fun and function. I’m talking about things like pasta-shaped pot holders, or a food storage container that’ll give your kitchen a bit of sassy flair (Seriously: Check it out.) Your kitchen doesn’t have to be all work and no play — there are plenty of handy gadgets and tools out there that you’ll use regularly and make you smile. Case in point: Monkey Business’ $15, pencil sharpener-shaped veggie peeler.

What is the Karoto Carrot Sharpener and Vegetable Peeler?

This dishwasher-safe peeler is just as fun as it sounds. Specifically suited for carrots — though it also works with potatoes, cucumbers, and more — this gadget is a two-in-one, with a pencil sharpener-like ribbon peeler as well as a straight blade. After cutting the skin away with the normal side, you can turn your veggies into curls that’ll make your dish look like art. (You can garnish your salad with a flower made out of carrots, for instance.) It’s just as durable as any typical peeler, compatible with tougher-skinned veggies as well as softer ones.

What Amazon Reviewers are Saying

Average Rating: 4.4/5

“This is a pretty cool thing. Easy to use to make cute garnish.” — Ann

“I rarely use this for ‘sharpening carrots’ but it is by far the best vegetable peeler I’ve ever owned.” — Amazon Customer

“Sharp, fun, and effective.” — bini slingsby

Even if you don’t garnish your dishes very often, it doesn’t hurt to have the option available — and this quirky gadget gives you the best of both worlds, since it’s an efficient normal peeler, too. Only $15 for something that’ll see regular use and add a little extra joy in your life? Sounds like a steal to me.
