Q: My boyfriend and I live far away from our families and can’t make it home for Thanksgiving. Last year, we had a get-together with close friends, but this year we don’t know anyone who will be in town for the holiday.

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday, and I love to cook, but this year I’m struggling trying to find ideas to make it special.

I’m wondering if your readers have any advice for vegetarian holiday meals that are special but also small, and for holiday advice in general — how do you cope when you’re away from family? What new traditions have you started?
