I think I can look back on my life and categorize it not by age, but by what I ate for breakfast. There was cereal when I was younger (and that time when I was a stubborn 20-something who refused to eat breakfast). I also went through a phase where I ate cake for breakfast, which probably wasn’t the best thing to start the day with. In my defense, carrot cake has vegetables, right? The best was probably my breakfast chicken tacos phase (note to self: revisit this choice) and, of course, my current oatmeal and granola phase.

I thought I had seen all the breakfast choices out there until I stumbled upon what Giada de Laurentiis eats every morning when left to her own devices. I’m sorry, girl, but out of all the tasty choices in this world, you eat what?

I’m all for eating things for breakfast that aren’t normally breakfast. Salad for breakfast? I’m in! Breakfast nachos? Sounds good to me! As long as it inspires me to get up in the morning, I’m here for it. I’m also not one to make fun of anyone’s breakfast choices (usually), but Giada might have taken things one step outside of my personal acceptance zone.

According to Delish, Giada prefers to eat brown rice that’s swimming in olive oil for breakfast: “A 1/4 cup of brown rice in the morning, with some olive oil,” Giada explains. “I do put a lot of olive oil in it, I’ll be honest. Not equal parts, but almost three tablespoons of olive oil to a 1/4 cup of brown rice. I hate to say this, but I like it swimming in olive oil.”

Apparently this breakfast helps her keep her energy up, cravings down, and it’s warm and comforting. To each their own, but I’m guessing this combination might not make many of our morning menus all the same.
