While many of us hear the words “stand mixer” and automatically think of KitchenAid, there’s more than one option on the market. Just ask the contestants on the Great British Baking Show. They used to use KitchenAid stand mixers … until the small appliances were controversially switched out in season three.

What contestants use now to mix their doughs and icings is a Kenwood kMix stand mixer.

If you’re not familiar with the brand, Kenwood manufactures small appliances and is based in the United Kingdom. The company — along with De’Longhi — makes small appliances for the U.S. market, too, but not all the products on the U.K. roster make it across the pond. The kMix stand mixer is one of those.

In the States, we have other stand mixer options from Kenwood. Here’s a look at what’s available.

Kenwood’s stand mixers have four attachment hubs that work with special accessories like a blender, food processor, and a pasta roller. This mixer bowl holds 4.75 quarts (although Amazon listings say 5, for some reason) and it comes with three stainless steel bowl tools (a k-beater, power whisk, and dough hook).

Like the option above, this one also has four attachment hubs, comes with the same mixer tools, and works the same way. It’s just larger.

3. Cooking Chef, $800 at Sur la Table

There are two things you need to know about the Cooking Chef: It’s the first stand mixer to integrate induction cooking directly into the mixing bowl (which means you can cook soup or make risotto in it), and it’s being discontinued so the stock on Sur la Table and Amazon is it.
