Let’s try to figure that out ahead of time. Here are eight people I think could potentially take over for Mary Berry.

Amy Poehler’s Parks & Rec character, Leslie Knope, is the world’s best friend, so it almost makes sense that Poehler’s directorial debut would be about friendship. Of course, it’s also about a girl’s trip, lots of wine, and a few good food scenes. Okay, that’s at least judging from the trailer, which came out yesterday to tease us.

The last season of Game of Thrones is set to premiere THIS Sunday, April 14 — and I have a lot of feelings. There have been seven seasons, 67 episodes, 174,374 on-screen deaths that constitute, if you ask me, an infinite number of gasp-worthy moments. From the Red Wedding to the Hodor episode (which I’m still crying about, thank you very much), Game of Thrones has captured the hearts of people who you never would have thought would have enjoyed a medieval deathfest such as this one.

Netflix dropped the first trailer for Street Food this week, the network’s more relaxed, playful answer to the glamorous, high-end world of Chef’s Table. And I promise you, we’re in for a treat. While that show is all about showcasing Michelin-star restaurants helmed by celebrity chefs, Street Food gives the spotlight to late-night food stands where regular people gather to commune over local dishes.

Netflix has no plans to slow down its foray into the food world: Apparently, a new show centered on the life of the former Gourmet editor and New York Times critic Ruth Reichl is headed to our television screens. According to a report from Eater, the streaming service is planning to turn the story of her humble beginnings as a food writer into an eight-part series. The series will be based on her memoir, Comfort Me With Apples.

If you’re looking for a show that is warm, fuzzy, hilarious, and vaguely food-related, you’ve got to start watching the Canadian import Kim’s Convenience. I first found the show when flipping channels while on vacation in Canada, and immediately fell in love with the grumpy but soft-hearted Appa and his family.

Ina Garten’s iconic cooking show, Barefoot Contessa, is returning for its 16th season (!!) this April, so dust off your pots, pans, spatulas, and hand mixers because we are about to be blessed with even more of the queen’s tips and tricks. The latest season will once again focus on Garten’s new cookbook, Cook Like a Pro, and details have already emerged about what the first episode will cover.

Netflix announced this week that the makers of Chef’s Table will debut a brand new show called Street Food. Premiering on April 26, 2019, the show “takes viewers to some of the world’s most vibrant cities to explore the rich culture of street food all over the globe,” according to a press release from Netflix.

Julia Child was the original television cooking teacher — the one who taught us what it meant to stand and stir, the one who demonstrated that cookbooks could come to life on the screen, and the one who inspired us to invest our TV time in timbales and tarts. And now, thanks to a new Amazon and PBS arrangement, you can binge watch all 10 full seasons, spanning from 1963 to 1973 of her show, The French Chef with Julia Child. Is there a catch? Yes, of course there is.

Move over, MasterChef Junior!The greatest cooking competition of all time, The Great British Bake Off, is finally bringing youngsters into the big white tent. The spin-off will be called Junior Bake Off, and it’s slated to air later this year.

In the wake of a disappointing “pastry” iteration of Chef’s Table (which critics called out for its lack of diversity), the popular Netflix mini-documentary series is making up for its past mistakes. Season five showed a diverse group of voices, and judging from the newly released trailer for season six, this new narrative has stuck.

Of all the joys associated with the Great British Bake Off — the lovable cast of bakers, the chemistry between new hosts Noel and Sandi — it’s the actual bakes that trump the rest. Watching the bakers’ creations unfold is somehow both therapeutic and suspenseful.

It’s safe to say 2018 was an incredible year for food TV. So where do you start when there’s so much to watch? How about a sampler instead of a binge watch — a taste of the very best of what 2018 had to offer? This year we left the perfectly lit kitchen and the chew-and-moan style of food travel TV. Television and food both offer these opportunities for connection. Food TV doesn’t have to be cute prattle and quick menus, fraught competitions or glossy adventures.

It’s nearly here: the most glorious TV-bingeing season of the year. For your sleepy post-gift-opening Christmas-day family bonding, your lengthy flights, your New Year’s Day after-brunch plans, there is a bushel of food-themed television from 2018 just waiting for you. It’s end-of-year list catch-up time, folks! Make some snacks. Throw on some pajamas. Dig in. Food television in 2018 was electric.

For fans of celebrity chef Bobby Flay, the Food Network has been feeding them plenty of battles, burgers, and brunches for nearly 25 years — and it doesn’t look like the star will be slacking off anytime soon. Busy, busy Bobby is opening a new restaurant in Las Vegas called Shark, working on his 15th cookbook, and has just announced his newest television show — co-starring his daughter.

If you’re planning on a New Year’s resolution to have your cake and eat it, too (aren’t we all), Giada De Laurentiis has a new show on the Food Network that will help inspire you to get in the kitchen and bake a better cake. The show, called Winner Cake All, debuts on Monday, January 7, on Food Network. In this baking competition series, four bakers will battle it out each week in difficult themed challenges designed to challenge even expert bakers.

For fans of the Amazon series The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, the quick, witty dialogue and striking retro sets are the main draw, but the classic New York and Jewish food fall right behind. In the first season, Midge, played by Rachel Brosnahan, brings her brisket to bars to bribe her husband’s way onto stage and jokes at her own Jewish wedding about there being shrimp in the egg rolls. In fact, we theorized that the entire show is secretly about the power of cooking.

On The Great British Bake Off, the white tent where the contestants create their marvelous mouth-watering bakes is a place of comfort and joy, even when the pressure is on. Yes, The Great British Bake Off is technically a competition, but the white tent also represents the bond between the bakers and their love of baking.

Nailed It! changed the game in the baking-competition genre when it premiered earlier this year, with its comedian host Nicole Byer and focus on amateur bakers who tend to have more flops than triumphs in the kitchen. Now, the series is back with an all-new holiday-themed season. In a new clip teasing the season, Byer and her co-host, master pastry maker Jacques Torres wax poetic about how joyful the holiday season can be — mostly because of the food. Christmas cookies! Hanukkah cakes!

As button-wearing, card-carrying members of the “In Ina We Trust” club, we’ve long used her books, television show, and tips to plan the biggest meal of the year, Thanksgiving. This year, she’s helping us out by bringing together some of her favorite recipes (and friends!) in a Thanksgiving-themed holiday special, airing this Saturday, November 17, on the Food Network, at 8 p.m. ET.

On November 11, the world said its final goodbyes to professional eater and the most insightful, influential world traveler to ever appear on television: Anthony Bourdain. In final episode of his long-running docu-series Parts Unknown, Bourdain revisited his dark past as a drug addict living (and cooking) on New York City’s Lower East Side. He revisited some of his old haunts on the episode, including the home of his friend, musician John Lurie.

Good news for any of you starting to go through withdrawal ever since the last episode of Fixer Upper aired, seven months ago: Chip and Joanna Gaines are going to be returning to television. You may have caught their recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon when Joanna teased that Chip “let the cat out of the bag about something big.” The host asked the couple if they’d ever consider coming back to television and Chip got real.

The days are getting shorter and the news is getting bleaker each day, but the arrival of November also brings with it a bright spot: The Great British Baking Show is coming back to Netflix, with all its soggy-bottom joy and saucy-puds cheer. Okay, not all of it: There is still no Mary Berry, Sue Perkins, or Mel Giedroyc, but Paul Hollywood holds his own among the new hosts.

Even though it’s been nearly six months since Parts Unknown host Anthony Bourdain died in his hotel room in France, his fans are still having trouble coming to terms with his passing. CNN decided to air the final season of Parts Unknown, perhaps to give fans some closure, though it was incomplete —Bourdain had not yet added his voice-over to many of the episodes. The final episode of the show, which will take place on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, is set to air on November 11.

Although she’s a regular guest on Beat Bobby Flay and Iron Chef America, and is the host of multiple Food Network shows, including Food Network Star, Giada De Laurentiis wasn’t always so comfortable behind the camera. In fact, in a new interview with People magazine, she remembers feeling more anxious than excited that the world would be watching her cook. De Laurentiis told the magazine that cooking on camera was “very intimidating” in the beginning.

I must admit I have to apologize to the Pioneer Woman. I assumed since our lives were so different — her being the matriarch of an Oklahoma cattle ranching family and me living deep in our nation’s capital with nary a child, husband, or even a boyfriend to speak of (please, play the world’s tiniest violin for me) — that I had nothing to learn from her.
