Costco isn’t just where you go when you need a rotisserie chicken, a massive thing of dishwasher detergent, or a cheap hot dog lunch. It’s also, believe it or not, where you go when you need to stock up on healthy snacks and treats, too. We actually spent a lot of time talking about the healthy groceries at Costco this year: We wrote about some of the healthiest new items in the freezer department, the healthiest pre-made dishes, the healthiest snacks to eat on the go, and more. With the year almost over, we thought we’d take a look back and round up 10 of the best healthy items we bought at Costco in 2019.

1. Frozen Avocado Chunks, $10 for three pounds

You know the trouble with avocados: First, you have to pick the ones that are just right. Then, you have to race against the clock to eat them in time. These FROZEN avocado chunks eliminate both of those issues. We tried them earlier this year and liked them the best in smoothies (not so much on, say, toast). If you’re a frequent smoothie drinker, stock up.

2. Kirkland Signature Raw Kombucha, $10 for eight 16-ounce bottles

Of course Kirkland Signature, Costco’s in-house private-label brand, has its own kombucha now. Its tangy, zesty flavor is on par with top name brands and the price is way lower. It’s also organic!

3. Shrooms, $9 for 7 ounces

Mushrooms are having a serious moment these days. Here we just have a pouch of dried mushrooms (brilliant!), which we love on their own or on top of a salad. Fun fact: Mushrooms are a great source of fiber, vitamin D, and offer many antioxidants and phytonutrients not found in other veggies.

4. From the Ground Up Cauliflower Tortilla Chips,$6 for 14 ounces

Speaking of trendy veggies! These tortilla chips are gluten-free and grain-free — because they’re made of cauliflower — but you wouldn’t even know it if you did a blind taste test. Also, this bag is gigantic.

5. Innofoods Dark Chocolate Nuggets with Coconut + Super Seeds, $11 for 18 ounces

If you love dark chocolate and coconut, these treats are for you. They’re free of refined sugars, low in added sugars, and rich in antioxidants and fiber.

6. Hippeas Organic White Cheddar Chickpea Puffs,  $7 for 18 ounces

There are so many chickpea-based snacks these days. And we’re not mad about it. These Hippeas are some of our favorites, so we were pumped when we saw them pop up at our local Costco. They’re vegan and dairy-free, organic, gluten-free, and have no refined flours or grains the way some puffed snacks do. They’re also a good source of plant-based protein, fiber, and have no artificial ingredients of any kind!

7. E&C’s Heavenly Hunks Organic Dark Chocolate Oatmeal Bites, $10 for 22 ounces

The bag isn’t lying — these really are “ridiculously amazing.” Each bite has big pieces of hearty rolled oats, flavorful chunks of high-quality dark chocolate, and shreds of unsweetened coconut. They have no refined sugar or flour of any kind and are great for gluten- and dairy-free diets.

8. Yasso Mint Chocolate Chip Frozen Greek Yogurt Bars, $11 for 15

These things taste just like our favorite mint chocolate chip ice cream. They’re cold, minty, chocolate-y, and creamy. But they’re made of Greek yogurt! Plus, they get the thumbs up from one of Kitchn’s healthiest writers (she’s a nutritionist!). And they’re on a stick.

9. Deavas Organic Dark Chocolate Belgian Thins, $10 for 17 ounces

We’re clearly loving all the still-healthy chocolate treats at Costco! This bark is full of chia seeds, goji berries, pumpkin seeds, quinoa, and more! It’s also organic and the back of the package shows where every single ingredient comes from.

10. MorningStar Farms Chipotle Black Bean Veggie Burgers

Add these spicy bean burgers to your Meatless Monday dinner meal plan. Or honestly, grill one up for BREAKFAST! They’re a tad high in sodium, but they have 16 grams of protein per patty and 73 percent less fat than regular beef patties.
