When I first saw Veronica and Keith’s Chicago kitchen, I was struck by the deep blue hue, and the contrast it made against the jadeite and milk glass dishes. The dramatic color (“Nightshade” by Behr) grounds all the other disparate, yet homey elements, like the painted rug in front of the sink, the giant white shutters made from a vintage room divider, and the marble countertop made from a repurposed coffee table.

Veronica, a bridal designer, buys vintage whenever she can, and then finds ways to keep it from looking too dated or kitschy. (She credits Jenny Komeda of the blog Little Green Notebook with inspiring the kitchen design.) While many say it’s not an ideal color for food spaces, blue is still a hugely popular kitchen color. I like it in this case – the white, mint green, and pops of red keep it from feeling too heavy. What do you think?
