Trader Joe’s Wildly Anticipated New Snack Is Here After Months of Waiting — And It Does Not Disappoint

If the hottest bakery this spring is the one at Costco, I’d say the snack section at Trader Joe’s has been on fire as of late. Earlier this month the grocer dropped a duo of highly-recommended crispy and crunchy bites. And in a surprise to no one, the Trader Joe’s team is at it again — this time with a hotly anticipated launch of these Mini (Almost) Everything Bagel Sandwich Crackers.

Truth be told, I have been waiting months for these crackers to appear in stores ever since I learned about their impending release on an episode of the Inside Trader Joe’s podcast. So when I spotted them on the grocer’s website I knew their time had (finally) come. We all know what happened next…

Similar to Trader Joe’s cheese- and peanut-butter- sandwich crackers, these (almost) everything sandwich crackers are bite-sized and take inspiration from the grocer’s Everything but the Bagel Seasoning Blend. The crackers are missing one component of that classic seasoning mix — sesame seeds. (As I learned from the aforementioned podcast, it’s because they’re made in a sesame seed-free facility.) They’re seasoned with poppy seeds, dried onions, dried garlic, onion powder, and “other natural flavors,” which are baked into the crackers and are sandwiched around a cream cheese filling, made with a cream cheese powder, among other ingredients. 

I grew up in the suburbs of New York, so bagels — and more specifically everything bagels — are a constant in my life. (It remains my second favorite bagel, behind egg-everything, naturally.) And when the friendly cashier who rang me up gave these sandwich crackers an (unprompted) shoutout, I was even more excited to give them a try. I arrived home, dumped three quarters of the bag into a bowl and got to snacking.

These mini bagel sandos are doing the most with what they got. The cracker has a crumbly crunchy texture that is very appealing (and snackable). I was able to sample a few sans filling, because some stragglers snuck into my bag, and the podcast hosts were right — I don’t miss the sesame seeds. (Though I wouldn’t uninvite them from future parties either.) There’s a nice balance between the onion, garlic, and salt, with a hint of poppy flair, which I would gladly take more of. If anyone at TJ’s is listening, you could turn the flavor volume up to a nine for this everything-seasoning stan. 

And the cosplay happening with that cream cheese filling is a credit to the R&D folks. The filling was the thing I was most skeptical about (shelf-stable cream cheese, say wut?!). On its own I found it to be a bit on the salty and grainy side, but when nestled between those two crackers its tang takes over and all is right in the bagel sandwich cracker world. I’m already regretting only grabbing one box.
