Whether you consider yourself a true fan of Trader Joe’s or you’re just someone that stops by every now and again, there’s no denying the chain’s ability to keep their finger on the pulse of what’s delicious. From Buttermilk Ranch Dressing to popular pastries, there’s literally something for everyone to enjoy on the shelves of any Trader Joe’s location. And, there’s even more opportunity to try something new.

Most recently, while scouring the web, I came across an Instagram page, @traderjoeslist that focuses only on finds at Trader Joe’s. Though there were plenty of recent posts that included items worth talking about, there was one in particular that caught my eye: the new Trader Joe’s Spicy Tempura Seaweed Snack.

While I’m not the biggest fan of seaweed, the spicy tempura flavoring immediately made me second guess my previous feelings toward it. A bit of heat mixed with tempura batter? Sign me up! So, I put my personal disdain for seaweed to the side and opted to try something new. After a quick run to the store, I was ready to see if they were worth the hype (and $3.29) that everyone gave them.

My Honest Review of the Trader Joe’s Spicy Tempura Seaweed Snack

Initially, I was very reluctant to try these after the Instagram post described them as smelling like Play-Doh, but I am so glad I went for it. These seaweed snacks have the ideal mix of spice, seasoning, and crunch and they taste delicious. Not to mention, the yellow packaging fits the product perfectly.

Made with crispy seaweed that’s coated with tempura batter and seasoned with togarashi-style seasoning, this is one snack that I wouldn’t mind picking up again. Each 2.1-ounce bag includes two servings, but this snack was so good, I ate it in one sitting.

So the real question: Did it change my opinion on seaweed? If seaweed can taste like this at all times, my answer is definitely yes. I could actually see myself adding this into my snack rotation and making it a pantry staple for my household. Since Trader Joe’s is known for releasing limited time products though, I plan to stock up on a few bags of these during my next store run — just in case they won’t be around long.
