There are certain things in life that simply aren’t worth messing with, and a classic strawberry smoothie is one of them. When juicy strawberries, a ripe banana, and tangy yogurt combine, it makes for a not-too-sweet, not-too-fussy smoothie — one that’s great for breakfast or a snack.
There’s not a chia, hemp, or flax seed in sight, and I love that you can count the ingredients on one hand. Yes, it’s the smoothie your kids want, but it’s also the smoothie you secretly want — one that’s pure and simple, and all about the fruit.
A Classic 3-Ingredient Smoothie Worth Memorizing
Make this smoothie once, and you’ll hardly need to reference the recipe again. Because it’s so simple, the ingredients shine instead of getting muddled together. The strawberries are front and center, with subtle sweetness from the banana and a touch of tang from the yogurt.
Two Smart Tips for Thicker, Creamier Smoothies
Using a frozen banana will thicken your smoothie. The ripeness of the banana is also important, because it will ultimately determine how sweet this smoothie is. For the sweetest smoothie, peel and
freeze it
Opting for Greek yogurt also helps thicken the smoothie and gives it plenty of body, meaning there’s no need for ice. I prefer whole-milk Greek yogurt, which makes for the thickest smoothie, but nonfat and 2% yogurt are great as well.
