White has been a longtime favorite when it comes to kitchen cabinet colors. And it’s not hard to see why: it goes with almost everything, brings soothing vibes into the space, and often cost less since cabinets commonly come in white. But it looks like green is the non-neutral taking over kitchen cabinet popularity.

Semihandmade, a home brand that pairs stylish doors with IKEA cabinets, recently published a post about how green is the new white when it comes to kitchen cabinets. They’ve noticed that green cabinets has rapidly taken over in all types of spaces — big and small, traditional and contemporary — thanks to its calming qualities, celeb stamp-of-approval, and its ties to nature.

Benjamin Moore selected Aegean Teal as their 2021 Color of the Year because “the blue tone creates a soothing effect, while the green brings the outdoors in,” according to a press release. PPG also incorporated Misty Aqua, which has an aquamarine undertone, into their 2021 Palette of the Year for similar reasons, stating in a press release that it helps with “simplicity and restfulness.”

Another thing that Semihandmade noted is that a lot of celebrities have been showcasing green kitchen cabinets in their homes, like Dakota Johnson’s sage green cupboards. Joanna Gaines added a dark green color to her paint collection, a hue she used in her Waco, Texas coffee shop, which speaks to the popularity green holds at large.

Finally, Semihandmade pointed out that painting your cabinets green is an easy way to revive your kitchen without redoing the whole thing. “They can brighten up a space even more than all-white panels would, lend a dramatic accent even better than a coat of black paint, and look as calming as a pared-back gray,” the blog post read.

So if you’re looking to refresh your kitchen, going green is a great choice.
