This TikTok Shows Us How to Use a Home Depot Work Bench as a Kitchen Island

As it turns out, you can find a kitchen island not only at the kitchen section at Home Depot, but also in the hardware section.

TikTok user @madkal3 has shared a hack that can get you a kitchen island at more than half the price. In her video, she details how her mom had bought a workbench tool chest from Home Depot and used that as her kitchen island.

Here’s why it works. The item features 18 extra-wide drawers that can store various items, from cutlery and cooking utensils, to pots and pans, and to even snacks. If that’s not enough storage, there’s a removable crank handle that raises the wooden top, revealing more room inside. The adjustable height is also great for those who can’t strain their lower back while cooking or baking.

The work bench includes other handy features, such as six built-in outlets and two USB ports, as well as locks on the drawers so children can’t access the knives. And if you’re rearranging or cleaning up, the item comes with wheels, so it’s easy to move it around.

A work bench in the kitchen might have some homeowners cringing, but seeing as the Home Depot version only costs $1,298 compared to $6,500 on average for installing a traditional one, that’s not a bad compromise.

“I bought that for my husband for his birthday! Now I want it back,” said one commenter. Another added: “My grandma has one as an island and then another as a coffee bar!”
