Recently we learned some very important information about Ina Garten. (Although, let’s be real, what information isn’t important when it comes to the Queen of Cooking?). An editor for Food & Wine learned that Ina makes sure she has three things in her freezer at all times: vodka, bread, and vanilla ice cream. Not a bad selection to have. But what’s her reasoning? Let’s do some investigating.

Let’s start with vodka. Well, vodka is great for cocktail parties and entertaining, and obviously Ina is great at those things, so making sure she has some extra vodka ready in the freezer makes sense. We know from Bon Appétit that she prefers Grey Goose. I imagine she probably makes a lot of limoncello vodka collins or cosmopolitans with her freezer vodka.

Now let’s look at bread. Store-bought bread, according to Ina, tastes just as great as fresh bread you whip up yourself. And it holds up pretty well in the freezer, where there’s a longer shelf-life. I bet Ina uses her freezer bread to make nice lunch sandwiches for Jeffrey! Maybe this Caesar club sandwich? Can I get an invite?

And for ice cream, well, vanilla ice cream is the perfect companion for warm pies, cakes, and other sweets, so it makes sense she’d have some in the freezer at all times for quick desserts and easy entertaining. Plus vanilla is so versatile — you can add sprinkles, chocolate, sauces, syrups, and any toppings to give it some extra oomph. I bet she makes these sheet pan chocolate chip ice cream sandwiches on the regular during the summer.

I don’t know about you, but I will definitely be stocking up on vodka, bread, and ice cream (maybe not vanilla for me — perhaps a chocolate peanut butter cup or chocolate cookie dough) on my next grocery shopping trip!
