ATTENTION, PARENTS: Have you ever found out about your kid’s bake sale for the very first time while en route to said bake sale? Before you go to your grocery store and pick out a tray of cookies to try to pass off as your own, we have a solution for this common conundrum (provided that you have 20 minutes to spare).
You do not need special cocoa Krispies for this recipe. I repeat: You do not need special cocoa Krispies for this recipe! All you need is some unsalted butter, a bag of mini marshmallows, unsweetened cocoa powder, chocolate chips, and regular ol’ Rice Krispies. I bet you have most of those things in your pantry, so you’re halfway there!
As you race against the clock, line a square baking dish with parchment paper or give it a good spritz of cooking spray so that you can easily de-pan your treats to ensure a speedy delivery. Combine the butter, marshmallows, and cocoa powder in a large pan and melt while stirring over medium-high heat. This will be very sticky! Stir in chocolate chips and melt those too.
Then stir in your Rice Krispies and press the finished mixture into the baking dish. (Grease your hands so that the treats end up in the pan and not on you!) Sprinkle these with your finest sea salt, hop in the car, and head to that bake sale to save the day.
