The party problem: You want a cute, festive decoration for your St. Patrick’s Day party, but you don’t have a ton of time — or crafting ability.

The party trick: Get a bunch of pennies and line them up on a tray.

Looking for a quick and easy decoration for St. Patrick’s Day? Perhaps you’d be interested in making your own luck with this penny-lined serving tray?

Just get a tray — we love this mint one because mint and copper are, well, très chic right now — and a bunch of pennies. (If you don’t have a ton on hand at home, you can go to the bank to exchange some dollars for pennies. The teller will most likely be ecstatic to help because no one ever wants pennies! Poor pennies.) Then, add the pennies to the tray. You can dump them in at random and let them fall into place, or line them up in neater rows.

Once you’re happy with your design, use it as you would a regular serving tray. The pennies aren’t glued down, obviously, so just don’t turn the tray upside-down and you’ll be good. You could glue them down, of course, if you wanted to make this more of a permanent situation.

Buy: Mint Large Accessory Tray, $18 at Poppin

Note: This Poppin tray is not food-safe (and also, pennies are dirty!) so we do not recommend serving food directly off the tray. Instead, use it to carry little bowls or mugs filled with treats or just set it out in your entryway with a vase and some colorful flowers.

When it’s not St. Patrick’s Day, you can do a similar craft: Consider lining the tray with dice or dominoes for game night, or movie tickets for a movie night. Or just dress it up with some pretty wrapping paper.
