There are lots of things we could do for our pantries. We could take the time to decant ingredients. We could add labels. We could make sure all the labels are facing forward. We could group like with like. But who has the time? Most of us are usually just happy to have a decently stocked pantry in the first place! We get it. But. But! If you’re going to do one thing for you pantry this season, we have a suggestion: Take the time to dig out anything that’s seasonally appropriate and put it front and center. You know, the same way you swap out the tank tops in your dresser drawers for sweaters.

Take a few minutes this week and really dig out all of your fall pantry items. This could include things like crackers for impromptu cheese boards; grains and flours you’ll use for homemade pumpkin or banana bread; fall spices like nutmeg, cinnamon, and allspice; cans of soups and chili beans; and that can of French’s onions you still have from last year!

By putting these items within easy reach this fall, you’ll save yourself the hassle of scrambling to look for them when you’re in the middle of cooking or baking, and you’ll avoid wasting time, energy, and expenses on running out to the grocery store for something you may already have. Plus, it’s a convenient way to also take stock of all the fall items you’re missing (like canned pumpkin!), so that you can add them to your next grocery list.

It’s a little organizing chore — with a big payoff — that you can do now. Do it and you’ll feel like you’re on top of things as the busy season ramps up.
