For the first time ever, you feel ready for the holidays. You’ve color-coded your calendar, covered your fridge in chronological to-do lists, and sketched out a rough diagram of decorations. If all of your neighbors take you up on that “stop by anytime” thing on the same night, you’ll be ready to go. But we have one more holiday secret weapon for you: Walmart’s grocery pickup. It’s fast, easy, and convenient. You don’t even have to get out of your car to get your haul.

Our very own Faith Durand, Kitchn Editor-in-Chief, tried Walmart’s grocery pickup for herself. She picked up some holiday must-haves to keep in her fridge and her freezer that she can use to quickly feed a crowd this time of year.

Because this kind of thing happens all the time during the holidays (and admit it, you lowkey love it), here are a few of Faith’s favorite grocery shortcuts. Add them to your next Walmart Grocery pickup order, conveniently pick them up, and voilà — you’ll be all set the next time you’re unexpectedly entertaining a crowd.

These smoked sausage-filled yeast rolls work as a savory appetizer, a quick lunch, or an easy last-minute dinner. Faith recommends whipping up a creamy sauce of pesto and sour cream for serving.

This combination of refried beans, salsa, and guac is the perfect pre-dinner snack. Open a bag of tortilla chips and hand it to your hangriest-looking guest while you’re deciding what to fix for dinner.

Whether the main dish is a pasta bake or a frozen pizza, you can’t go wrong with a side of garlic knots — especially when you serve them with marinara sauce and some grated Parmesan cheese. Best of all, these buttery, garlicky rolls bake right in the bag, so you’ll have one less dish to clean.

You’d never forget dessert, and this triple shot of goodness will satisfy the sweetest sweet tooth. Fudge brownies, cream cheese brownies, AND turtle brownies? Yes, yes, and yes. It’s also an ultra-easy addition to a DIY holiday buffet: Just cut the brownies into small 1-inch squares, add some festive toothpicks, and you’re set.

5. Holiday Hot Cocoa Cookie Cups Kit

We love a dessert that doubles as an activity. This kit comes with everything you need to make hot cocoa cookie cups — a.k.a. sugar cookies filled with chocolate pudding. It’s a fun, tasty way to keep kids (and adults!) entertained. Plus, who doesn’t love mini marshmallows?

Once you have a few fridge and freezer must-haves, you’ll be ready for effortless holiday hosting.
