Vote for one...

1-5-topkitchn.jpg12-20-homies1.jpgVoting closes tomorrow,Tuesday, at 8pm Eastern.

Thanks to all of you who sent in nominations for this year's best Home Cooking Blog. We received 43 amazing nominations and whittled the field down to six based on your comments and a few other factors including how often they posted, if they were a standalone blog, how new long they'd been around and/or how closely they spoke to home cooking as a category (yours didn't make it this year? There's always next year). You can check out all the nominations below the jump and then vote on your favorite of the top six here. Nominations here. All prizes & info here.

Looks like voting is broken for the nonce. I'll try to remember to check back.

I can't believe Simmer Till Done didn't make the list.
I think next year you should review the rules and make them typo-proof and more easily understood. This year they were confusing and thus unfair. For example this makes no sense at all:
" After a week of nominations, we'll collect up all your comments on the five individual posts and sort them down to the top six contenders. The, on Monday, January 29th we'll post a voting survey of these top six and repost it all week so that you have plenty of time to see it and vote. With one week of nominating and one week of voting, we should have a good turnout."

Hey folks - if you are having trouble voting, please follow this link to log out completely...

http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/superlogout

Then return to this page and log back in. That should fix any commenting or voting issues. Thanks!

I tried logging out through that page and logging back in and it still won't let me vote.

And 90% of the time the "submit vote' button is disabled.
If that's the case, then refresh the page a few times.

The AT programmer should get his or her hand spanked.

superlogout doesn't really work.

although you do see the login form when you go to http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/superlogout, a user can click the "back" button (and even refresh the page), and the user will find that he/she is still logged in.

It's not a caching issue, so you might want to take a look at this.

Can you guys at AT please test this?
When you vote, the number doesn't change.

Voted for Pioneer Woman because of it's originality in the recipes and great instructional photography. If I want basic recipes I can find anywhere, I don't have to go to Smitten Kitchen or lottieanddoof to get them. I can look at my cookbook collection or the library, yes the photography is beautiful, but that's not enough. And I'm not even sure why hungry cravings is even nominated. Readablity and ease of use should be part of the criteria, and hungrycravings is definitely not easy to use. How many time do you have to click in order to get to the actual recipe? I think for future year end lists, AT Kitchen should be more selective in their final lists and should have the best of the best (the Photography, recipes, ease of site and uniqueness) should be part of the criteria for making it to the final count. Rant out.

Ok, just noticed that 101cookbooks wasn't part of the final list. FOR SHAME!!! It's original, got gorgeous photography, and is so digitally hip. Please! I've lost faith in the kitchen section of AT-how were things even finalized. tssk tssk.

edava72, your comment about Hungry Cravings (HC from now on) is ludicrous. At most, compared to the other finalists HC requires 1 more click to get to a recipe. Personally, I like this, it means there is no long, awkward, sidebar extending the page endlessly. Additionally, the photography is amazing and the recipes are top notch from a trained chef who is devoting her free time to giving out recipes.

I think all the blogs nominated are good and there was no need for such a catty remark.

folks, sorry if some of you are having trouble voting. Scott is just back from driving from visiting his family in Detroit. We'll see what we can do to fix it, and leave a comment here tomorrow.

I do like SmittenKitchen quite a bit, check it every day. That said, I also LOVE delicious days and think they should be on the list, as well as 101.

This is a good list but I suspect the convoluted voting procedure is making the tally grossly incorrect. Next time maybe have a series of screens that are easy to follow even for the computer challenged. FL

For people who've had voting problems -- there was a bug in the "superlogout" code that made logging out of thekitchn (and unplggd, re-nest and ohdeedoh) impossible. If you've had trouble voting, please try the logout link again and let us know if it works.

Also, if the "answer survey" button is grayed out, try holding down shift and reloading the page. Sometimes the survey form gets stuck in the browser cache in the "not logged in" state and that should clear it out.

After receiving your verification email, come back and log in.

After logging in the "answer survey" button will be disabled.

At this point, click the image that says "The Homies 2008" and as the page refreshes the button will be "click-able".
I discovered this after I found that simply refreshing didn't work.

I doubt they'll count the votes in the comment though.

finally! after several attempts on several days i was able to vote, and only after reading through all these comments and trying several of the suggestions.

i wonder how many more were disenfranchised... so much for a democratic Homies...

I registered, verified and then came back here and logged in. It does say to 'refresh' the page to get the buttons once you log in. I don't know if that helps anyone...or if the voting is just wonky.

I was able to cast my vote.... for Vegan Explosion. :)

A lot of people told me they tried to vote for my pie during the Pie contest around Thanksgiving. The process was too hard and complicated. Most of them just gave up.

Now, I'm having trouble voting for this contest. Either way, put me down for Vegan Explosion!
