What do you do when you love the color blue, but your blue kitchen is all wrong? You do exactly what reader Timisha did — you remodel your kitchen and turn it into the kind of blue oasis you want instead of the 1980s disaster it was.

Timisha writes the blog Toolbox Divas, and knew she needed to give her kitchen a makeover, but only had a limited budget to turn it into a room she’d love cooking in. Take a look at what she was able to accomplish for just $900.

Bravo, Timisha! This version of your blue kitchen is a much more modern update. Gone are the dark blue tiles, mismatched blue walls, and cheap-looking white and wood cabinets. In their place, Timisha created a fresh-looking kitchen with a lot of blue, but this time everything matches and looks a lot more modern.

Timisha tried many small fixes along the way to update her kitchen (which you can read about on her blog), but nothing could make it feel quite right. The dark tile backsplash was the one thing she just couldn’t get to work in the space, so it had to come down. That’s when she really committed to updating the space.

After replacing the old tile with this mini subway-style glass tile, Timisha was in business. After that, she painted all the walls and the cabinets. She never would have dreamed she’d go back to blue, but with that dark tile gone, her favorite shade now worked perfectly.

Because marble countertops were out of her budget, Timisha went with marble tiles instead. They are a great solution for anyone on a budget. We also love the lighter blue shade on the walls and breakfast bar.

Finally, the last touch is the fun chalkboard wall near the breakfast nook. Timisha has the rule that anyone who visits her home has to leave a note. Such a fun idea!
