I have some very upsetting news for you today, and I’m sorry in advance if it makes you uncomfortable or squirmish, but this story needs to be told. Someone thought it would be a good idea to put a slice of American cheese between two generic strawberry toaster pastries and eat it. As breakfast? As a snack? As dessert? Who knows. But if you just crinkled up your nose and felt that the weight of the world was suddenly upon your shoulders, then know that the entirety of the internet is right there with you.

Last Thursday Chris Jorgensen of Iowa State University decided to post his cheesy toaster pastry creation on Twitter. He insisted that this “recipe,” or whatever you call it, was something everyone from Iowa would recognize. Jorgensen says this combination was a joke, but it didn’t matter to anyone who saw the image.

The campus police got involved and quoted Jorgensen’s Tweet to tell him he was arrested for his poor food choices. Of course, this was obviously in jest. “I work at the student newspaper at Iowa State, and we kind of have a relationship with the police department. They always are open to making jokes on Twitter. So I tagged them and knew they would play along,” Jorgensen told Munchies.

The rest of Twitter continued to freak out over this absurd creation.

The one saving grace of this pastry-cheese photo is that Jorgensen used a real plate versus something that’s disposable.

Truth be told, I am in fact now curious what a piece of sharp cheddar tastes like on an apple-cinnamon Pop Tart (no generics — there’s just not enough filling to get the point across). If you need me, I’ll be at the store!

Would you try this strange combo? Let us know in the comments!
