We have a serious, serious thing for sweet potato fries. Does a restaurant dish include the words "sweet potato fri..."? Say no more. You don't even have to finish the final word. We're there. So these baked sweet potato fries from Annie's Eats look exactly right — slightly healthier, and with a great tip for getting a truly crispy outside.
We love this simple, easy recipe for sweet potato fries. This is similar to how we make our own fries, but we like the addition of a little brown sugar that Annie adds.
Annie also gives a very interesting tip for getting crispy outsides on your sweet potato fries. Check it out and tell us what you think!

Straw Mat from The ...

my husband and I are french fry junkies...we absolutely love them. We rate alot of restaurants based on their french fries....LOL.
I love sweet potato fries, they have such a great flavor. However, my husband isn't a fan...he prefers the original white potato fry.
I'll have to give this recipe a try.... i currently use olive oil, garlic powder, chili powder and S&P but the brown sugar sounds tastey.
thanks.
Perfect timing! I just made sweet potato fries last night. I use olive oil and Lawry's Garlic n' Salt with parsley - just a sprinkle. I love when they get crunchy and brown.
This really is great timing, I've been experimenting with these the last few weeks. I love using different spices like red pepper flakes or curry powder. Thanks for the cold water tip!
Oh, I'm the same about ordering any restaurant dish that comes with sweet potato fries! And I also make baked ones at home quite often--exactly the way lasiciliana described above but minus the garlic powder (which sounds like a good addition too though...: ). I will definitely give this recipe a try next time!
I had this for dinner last night. i"m beyond obsessed with sweet potatoes and mostly just end up chopping them up, throwing them in the oven, and eating my heart out. Yes, this is true love.
I'd be interested if the cold water trick works. I know it works for regular potato fries because you're leeching out starch (the reason why the drained water will be cloudy). You just have to make sure that you dry the fries really well after soaking. I like to use a salad spinner and then paper towels.
I use olive oil, garlic powder, salt, cinnamon and generous amounts of chipotle powder. We love the sweet, salty, spicy.
I usually use olive oil and sea salt, but I will have to try brown sugar!
I make REALLY healthy dips for them. One is mayo mixed with tofutti sour cream (obvs regular sour cream would work perfectly) and chives, dehydrated onion and garlic. The other is simply mayo with curry poweder and garlic. It's deadly fatttening so of course it's delicious.
when i worked at wild oats, we made a carribean sweet potato salad, which started with sweet potato fries with paprika, garlic powder, chili powder, salt, and pepper. then the dressing was mayo and white vinegar with the same spices, plus bunches of scallion and red pepper. we usually ate a lot of the fries before they became a salad.
the Wild Oats salad sounds amazing. Mmm.
I like to serve sweet potato wedges or fries with lemon or chipotle-spiked mayonnaise. I realize it sounds odd (I've been told by no less than five people now), but I've converted all of them. The dip is especially good with Hellman's olive oil mayonnaise as the base.
These are my drug of choice!!
The absolutely best tip I've ever heard is to sprinkle a little ginger powder on the sweet potatoes before baking. You can't taste the ginger but it makes the sweet potato taste really pop.
Thank you for posting this! I have been making sweet potato fries in the oven recently and have failed to get a crisp batch! Will definitely try this recipe.
toss with pam (no cal) cumin, ground red pepper and a little chili powder. s&p. delicious!!!
i love sweet potato fries. i cut then into thin coins, so sometimes i end up with chips, but they bake much faster. we eat them with maple syrup and/or caramel.
I recently learned another trick for crispy fries - egg whites! Just whip until fluffy and toss your fries in them. I have only used this with white potatoes, but I think they would work the exact same way for sweet potatoes...and who knows what else!
Here's the recipe:

Dry ginger needs to be heated gently in an oil or liquid before it releases much flavor--just like all powdered spices. I think covering the potatoes with foil for the first 5-10 minutes of oven time, and then removing it for the rest ensure that the wedges are cooked all the way through, and then the crust crisps.
For a sweet potato fry dipping sauce, I'll mix together mayo and maple syrup (eyeballing it until it reaches flavor and consistency that I like). Simple and good. It was a favorite at a restaurant where I worked a few years back.
Mmm, I love a good sweet potato fry. I'll be trying these baked ones for sure!
My holy grail for sweet potato fries are the ones I ate years ago at The Shrimp Shack on St. Helena's Island, SC. They were so crisp and crunchy on the outside but super creamy on the inside. They were like pure mashed sweet potatoes inside a great french fry jacket. I've never had any as good since.
Yet, I'm always a sucker for sweet potato fries, eating them up despite soggy, limp outsides or firm, dense insides.
I toss mine with oil, ginger, cinnamon, dash of cayenne pepper, dash of salt, tiny bit of honey & chopped pecans before roasting ... yum!
Sometimes I roast broccoli & carrots the same way. AFter steaming green beans, tossing with those ingredients causes my teen to suddenly like green beans!
Cumin and chili powder, then dipped in curry ketchup. Yummmmm.
