Kitchen Before & After: An Amazing Kitchen Makeover For Under $500

When Katie Logan decided to rent out the first floor of her New Orleans house, she knew she would have to do something about the kitchen before the place could be Airbnb-ready. It’d be challenging for anyone to spruce up this grungy kitchen, especially with “no money and no time,” as Katie said. However, prepare to be amazed, because the ‘After’ transformation is truly inspiring:

So, so, so much better! As Katie told Apartment Therapy in this 2012 post, she was initially hoping to just repaint the cabinets, but soon discovered the bottom cabinets would need to be replaced altogether. So she got cheap cabinets from Home Depot, but made them look great with nice hardware and a beautiful blue paint color (“Shale” by Martha Stewart for Behr).

Without access to IKEA and their “insanely cheap butcher block countertops,” Katie opted for simple pine sealed with a few coats of polyurethane. “The thick nosing is key to making them look more expensive than they are,” she says.
