Kitchen shelves are a way to get organized, save counter space, and create a stylish look. The storage solutions shown in this roundup are all from IKEA, making them affordable, too:
FIRST ROW:
• 1 the kitchen from Melinda & David's Unique & Artsy Home Revisited
• 2 a progress shot from a kitchen in an 1880's Baltimore home
• 3 organized shelves in a Lisbon, Portugal kitchen
• 4 These glass shelves might more commonly be used for a bathroom, but their light appearance and shallow storage work wonders in this kitchen.
• 5 Customized IKEA shelves go vertical in this application.
SECOND ROW:
• 6 One more view of those glass shelves from the bottom shows off their transparency.
• 7 That's a vertical Grundtal shelf on the right. It provides ingenious hanging storage without blocking light from the window.
• 8 white shelves in contrast to dark tiles
• 9 a highly-organized, colorful Grundtal shelf and hooks
• 10 Freestanding steel IKEA shelves store and organize small appliances.

Really like the freestanding shelves in the last photo. I particularly like that these ones have solid shelves as opposed to the traditional Seville Systems units.
What is the name of the freestanding steel shelf in the last photo? Can't find on Ikea's site.
Anyone know a source for the pale aqua tea kettle in the first photo? Mine has recently rusted out and I would love a cool replacement.
wiwd2010 - The shelf in the last photo is the HYLLIS.
I honestly didn't realise Ikea had such a variety of shelving..the glass ones in the 5th picture are very very nice.

Thanks for the link, wiwd2010.
I can't believe those freestanding shelves are just $15 each. They look sturdy enough, as well. :)
@greenbayou - I have one just like it in a coral-type color. Unfortunately it's one of those super generic brands I find randomly at TJ Maxx/Homegoods/Marshalls from time to time. I've also seen it in a totally random gift shop at the jersey shore, for at least twice the price I paid.
I might still have the box - I'll check when I get home to see if it has any identifying brand name. Mine might even be a knockoff of some more expensive version, though. Maybe someone else will have more insight?
I use the Marginal Wall Shelves from Ikea in both our kitchen and in my craft corner - I LOVE them.
Check them out in the tour section:

wow, I just realized the person from the first picture and I must be kindred spirits. I have both that same teapot AND the timer stuck to the oven. And mine coordinate as well! cool!
Actually, now that I look at the picture again, I have an old timey fan exactly like that. I guess we just both really like retro appliances, which isn't all that crazy or unique...but still. 3 for 3's pretty weird.
I also love bananas. who are you, mysterious kitchen doppelganger?!
I have an Expedit bookcase in my kitchen, holding my cookbooks in the narrow middle shelves, and a wine rack, a food processor, and a few vintage bowls/pots in the wider outer shelves.
I love that kettle in the first photo. Would love the name of the brand if anyone knows!
Oh crap: for a second I thought picture 9 was my house!
Turns out, it's another case of kitchen doppleganger like for @kodaly!
They no longer make the item that is in photo #3, the kitchen in Portugal. I just shopped for it last week. Sigh.
We have a quite a bit of open metal shelving in our kitchen but it is contrasted with these reclaimed timber glass and storage shelves from truecolour on Etsy.com
