Your Next Bowl of Soup Needs These Hungry Hippo Rolls!
One of my requisite sides when I serve soup is a big chunk of crusty baguette or a good roll. It’s perfect for mopping up the bottom of the bowl, plus it always proves more fun than eating with a spoon.
It’s time to up my bread game, though. Why serve bread on the side when you can chomp down on a hippo roll that’s swimming in the bowl!?
These perfect-for-soup rolls come from Sandra Denneler of the crafty DIY site, Handmade Charlotte. She made these rolls with her daughter, and mentions that it’s just like cooking with Play-Doh, only better since you get to eat the finished product.
As if it wasn’t enough that these hippo rolls are totally adorable, they’re also fun and easier to make than you’d ever expect!
Here’s What You Need
The best part about making these hungry hippos is that there’s not actually any bread making involved. The single star ingredient behind this wild soup side kick is frozen bread rolls. Here’s everything you need:
- Frozen bread rolls
- Butter
- Black eyes peas
- Black beans

And because they’re so easy to put together, they make a great way to get your kids involved in the kitchen. As for the type of soup to serve them with, that part is up to you! These hungry hippos love swimming in all flavors of soup.
