This week we’re doing a bit of a deep dive into some of the current trends in wedding registries. After all, we’re just a few weeks away from the official start of wedding season. Registry site Zola has given us a look at the most popular items that couples on their site are registering for, and when we saw the number-one pick last month, we were kind of blown away.

Any guesses as to what it might be?

Did you guess gold flatware? Neither did we. But many couples are adding it to their registry in addition to a standard set. Jennifer Spector, Zola’s Newlywed-at-Large, cites the five-piece place setting as an easy way to add some glamour.

As we get closer to wedding season and couples add more to their registry, we are seeing that they add another flatware set to diversify their table. A gold set like the Fortessa Arezzo is a fantastic way to spice things up for celebratory occasions like holidays or special date nights. Gold has been trending across multiple home categories, so blinged-out flatware is a fun way to extend the trend to the dining room.

When you look at the registry trends for the last year, the top product is also flatware (in classic silver).

Actual silver flatware and serving utensils have long been registry staples, but as fewer and fewer people of marriage age are opting for so-called wedding china, it makes sense that silver is on the decline as well, and that upgraded everyday utensils would replace it.

Did you register for flatware for your wedding or do you have it on your registry now?
