When You’re Done with Stress-Baking, Wine Sundaes Are Here for You
What’s for dessert when you’ve already made five banana breads, three different brownie recipes, and baked a cake? Jenna Fischer, the actress from The Office (and now podcaster) has an idea that inspires us with the kind of lazy genius that’s key to quarantine cooking: a wine sundae.
In a recent Tweet, Fischer let slip her father’s secret to making a little special treat for himself. “Guess what dad made for dessert?” the screenshotted text from Fischer’s mom reads. Then, without waiting for a reply, she says, “wine sundaes.”
Fischer, thankfully, asked the obvious question for us all: what in the world is a wine sundae? The answer is exactly what it sounds like: two scoops of chocolate ice cream, whipped cream, and a cherry on top, but instead of any of the usual sundae toppings like hot fudge or caramel, her dad uses an ounce of red wine. If you’re wondering if this dessert sounds like the smartest idea on the planet, or just plain weird, Jenna’s mom also has an official answer for you: “It was so good.”
We’ve been over plenty of cool ways to make your sundae a little bit more grown-up — fancy store bought toppings and regular items used in unusual ways — but this shows you don’t have to get too creative with your dessert. Red wine and chocolate are both great, and they work together perfectly, as we’ve learned when making red wine hot chocolate and red wine brownies. And we’re all looking for an easy way to end our day with something nice, and this requires almost no work, so why not?
