Every once in a while, a new product line hits stores that is so brilliant that we can’t help but face-palm and wonder why we didn’t come up with the idea or what took someone else so long. It doesn’t happen often, but when it does … man, is it amazing.

If you couldn’t tell from the title (or the intro) of this post, there’s a game-changing new line of baking stuff that launched online at Williams Sonoma today.

Silpat, the company that makes our favorite nonstick baking mats (read: Why Every Home Baker Should Own a Silicone Mat), has come up with Perfect Baking Molds, which are exclusively available at Williams Sonoma.

Buy: $50 each at Williams Sonoma

These molds look and feel like traditional Silpats, only they have rigid cavities to hold batter or dough and totally eliminate the need for you to buy or use baking cups. (The molds are technically made of food-grade fiberglass mesh coated in silicone, if want to know the nerdy specifics.) They sit perfectly nestled in standard half-size baking sheets and come in five different shapes: the Mini Loaf, Tartlet, Mini Muffin, Classic Muffin, and Madeleine.

They retail for $50 each (although the site currently has a 20-percent-off promotion). If you love to bake, not only will you save on buying paper or silicone wrappers, but you’ll also save yourself a lot of grief and aggravation. For one, these molds will not fall over or stick to your spoon when you’re trying to fill them with batter. They’ll also effortlessly release your finished baked goods. Plus, they can be reused over and over again, which is a win for the environment.

We weren’t over-promising, right? These molds are, hands-down, brilliant. Silpat deserves some sort of award. Maybe an award and a parade.

Are you face-palming right now, too? Which mold shape are you most excited about?
