Whether you celebrate the 12 days of Christmas, the eight nights of Hanukkah, or the one evening of Festivus, Whole Foods has a new event to add to your annual calendar: the 12 days of cheese. Yes, dairy-lovers, they have added a curd-nerd holiday to the winter that will light your refrigerator up with delicious deals on classic cheese, special holiday wedges, and exciting artisanal wheels.
The 12 days of cheese celebration returns to Whole Foods this year on Wednesday, December 12. Each day through the 23rd, the grocery store will offer that day's selected cheese for half-off. For members of Amazon Prime, there is an additional 10% discount from the sale price, which might not quite make up for the cost of the service, but remember, you also get the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.
The first cheese on sale on the 12th is the Klare Melk Truffle Gouda, and if you're not sure if that's the cheese for you, the stores will have samples available and Certified Cheese Professionals hanging around to help you make sure you get the perfect cheese (side note: How can I get that sweet gig?).
In the days that follow, you'll find the following cheeses hitting the sale table:
- Esquirrou Petit Ossau-Iraty
- Kaltbach Cave Aged Le Gruyere
- Vermont Creamery Bijou
- Mons Camembert
- Neal's Yard Dairy Keen's Cheddar
- Cypress Grove Humboldt Fog
- Uplands Cheese Company Pleasant Ridge Reserve
- Saxon Creamery Hika Bay
- Rogue Creamery Organic Enraptured Blue
- Mitica Drunken Goat
- Cellars at Jasper Hill Kombucha Willoughby
Whew, that's a lot of cheese! It's a great opportunity to expand your cheese palate and learn about some of the best cheeses around. The Vermont Creamery Bijou is one of my personal all-time favorites, but Jasper Hill and Pleasant Ridge have won tons of awards, and Neal's Yard is one of the most famous dairies in the entire world. You'll be rattling off cheeses faster than the lady in that viral video in no time at all.
