Hot chocolate is the quintessential winter drink. As a kid, I remember going to coffee shops and ordering a small hot cocoa with “lots of whipped cream, please!” That’s why this whipped hot chocolate, a riff on the TikTok Dalgona trend, is my go-to recipe for these cold winter months. The whipped cream mixed with the warmed milk creates a velvety mousse-like texture that makes it absolutely indulgent.
What Is Whipped Hot Chocolate?
Whipped hot chocolate is simply chocolate-flavored whipped cream that’s married with warmed milk. It’s the delicious cousin of classic hot chocolate but with a more velvety, luscious texture.
What Cocoa to Use for Whipped Hot Chocolate
You can use either a combination of cocoa powder and powdered sugar in this recipe or, if you want to make things even easier, use your favorite hot cocoa mix in place of the cocoa and sugar. If using cocoa powder, use a good-quality one that isn’t bitter. For a rich chocolate color, try using Dutch-process cocoa.
How to Make Whipped Hot Chocolate
You can whisk the cream, cocoa, and powdered sugar (or just cream and hot cocoa mix) by hand or use a hand mixer. Either way, be sure to whisk from-the-fridge cold cream! It helps speed up the whisking process.
