In a Pinterest-obsessed world, there are a few images that stand out in entertaining. A twee party isn’t complete without Mason jars and the colorful paper straw that fill them. It doesn’t matter the season or the event -– these items always have a place. Unfortunately, although these paper straws are cute, definitively so, they aren’t exactly practical.

You’ve been there: your super adorable paper straw looks cute in your drink initially but it slowly becomes gummy as you suck on it, and starts falling apart, distorting the drink’s flavor. Gross.

So what do you do? Do you pretend the straws don’t suck? Do you leave them out as decoration and never use them (as I do)? Or do you simply accept the fact that Pinterest has lied to you and maybe you should just try the metal straws or simply stop drinking out of Mason jars altogether.
