What Are Your Favorite Flavor-Boosters for Savory Dishes?
Q: What are some good ways to add flavor to savory dishes? Often, when I add herbs or spices, they’re hardly discernible, and everything still tastes bland. I’m not a fan of processed, pre-made sauces, or spice packets with high levels of sodium, so I’m looking for an alternative. Thanks!

Editor: First of all, make sure your herbs and spices are as fresh as possible — if they’re over a year old, they’ve lost much of their flavor and won’t be adding nearly as much to your dishes! Also, sometimes I find that what’s really needed is a little more salt to bring the flavors together or a squeeze of lemon to add some acidic brightness.
