Weekend Cooking: What’s Your Favorite Breakfast Sandwich?
When we’re cooking breakfast for two or more, we turn to crowd-pleasing egg dishes like casseroles, stratas and breakfast pizza. But when it’s just us, and we’re craving something hearty and simple, nothing beats a breakfast sandwich.
Breakfast sandwiches are infinitely adaptable and seldom require a recipe. When we’re in the mood for a guilty pleasure, we go for sweet and savory with whole-grain toaster waffles, sausage patties, eggs, cheese and a drizzle of maple syrup (we’ll admit, it’s essentially a homemade McGriddle but, like we said, it’s a guilty pleasure).
For something lighter, we cook and egg or two, add some seasonal vegetables (these days, it’s all about asparagus), sprinkle with whatever cheese we have on hand, and eat on some good crusty bread. Incredibly basic, but so satisfying.
