Vacation Rental: Casa Tiny in Puerto Escondido
Sleeps: 2 people
Price: $82 per night
Why We Wanna Cook Here: Glamping meets gourmet kitchen.

If you’ve ever wanted to spend a few days off the grid, this is the place to do it. Located in Punta Altares, a 30-minute drive from the bustling beach haven of Puerto Escondido, Casa Tiny was modeled after the simple living practices depicted in Henry David Thoreau’s Walden. Made mostly of concrete and wood, the minimalistic space may be short on frills, but certainly not on amenities. Guests can take advantage of a quick garden walk to a private beach, float around in the backyard pool, or cook up a fresh feast in the brick oven.

Who Should Go (and When)

This spot just screams “romantic getaway,” right? Book a trip (any time of year) for you and your partner to get back to basics together and plan on indulging in all sorts of romantic rituals that may seem funny or forced in a city apartment. Dinner by candlelight? Here, it’s a necessity. Swaying in a hammock for hours while reading to one another? Pretty much a required activity.

What We’d Cook Here

Start the day light with a fruit salad. Then, head to the beach for a day full of surf, sand, and the sandwiches you packed for lunch. Hit up nearby Hotel Escondido for pre-dinner margs (your rental comes with honorary access!), then head back home to cook up some locally caught fish for dinner under the stars.

Another Thing We Love

That bedroom! Who needs a fancy headboard when you can fling open the shutters and snooze beneath a natural vista! The crisp décor ensures a dreamy night’s sleep.

Nothing! You’re supposed to be off the grid, remember! But you could snap a pic of this back-of-house view to ‘gram later.

When we travel we believe in staying in real homes as much as we can; to really taste a place means cooking local food in a local’s kitchen. We Wanna Cook Here is our series devoted to our favorite vacation rentals, each with a kitchen worth savoring.
