Hard-boiled eggs are notoriously hard to peel and everyone seems to have a tip or trick that works for them. Some have a three-step method involving ice water, others swear by adding a little baking soda to the water, and still others live by the standard crack-and-peel method. They’re tedious and there’s room for error, but every method eventually gets the job done.

Now, a YouTube video has offered a different take: using a wine glass.

The method is having a moment after gaining popularity on Reddit. The video footage shows an individual taking a wine glass, adding water, and then plopping a hard-boiled egg inside of it. Then, using one hand to cover the opening of the wine glass and the second hand to secure the base of the wine glass, the person shakes the egg within the wine glass.

Some water leaks out and you can also spot shell particles making their way out — so be sure to do this over a sink, like the video, if you try this out at home. By the end of the video, the outer shell of the egg has been cracked and loosened. The individual is seeing easily removing the remnants of the shell off.

It’s not just a wine glass that works. Using the broader concept, you can also accomplish the same using a regular glass (in fact, there’s a video on that too), or maybe even a small glass Tupperware that fits water and the egg.
