Watch Marie Kondo Organize Things in the Kitchen
Marie Kondo has totally changed the way I view my home and all the “stuff” I have accumulated over the years. You see, I’m generally a pretty sentimental person, so normally things like pants that don’t fit me would be “hard” to donate or throw away because memories. And even though I’m not a perfect Kondo follower by any means, she’s helped me understand my relationship with objects and organizing in ways that have had a huge impact on my life. I know, super corny, but it’s true.
All this is to say that I’ll basically read or watch Marie Kondo do anything because she is so inspiring and thoughtful in everything she does. This is exactly why we asked her to visit our office and show us a thing or two on small ways to organize in the kitchen. Watch these videos and feel at peace.
The first video, above, shows Kondo organizing a kitchen junk drawer. We all have one. As she always recommends, she first dumps everything out of the drawer. She measures out the space and then adds appropriately sized containers to the drawer. She organizes the drawer by category type, so things like rubber bands get their own separate space and scissors get their own space. She also recommends stacking vertically to save space. She says everything needs to be seen, as well.
The next video shows Kondo organizing napkins. Her biggest tip was to organize the napkins by type, so in this case it was linen and cotton. You want to fold the various napkins to the shape of the container they are going in. A small thing you don’t see in this video is that Kondo was actually talking to the napkins to “ask how they wanted to be folded.”
