If you prefer to shop at Walmart for all of your grocery needs, then you are going to seriously love this major store change. According to a CNBC report, Walmart announced on July 31 that it is going to open five automated distribution centers for fresh food across the country, making it easier for the retailer to efficiently fulfill their online grocery orders.

These new facilities will be roughly 700,000 square feet with chilled and frozen areas that will automate the storage and retrieval of these items as they are needed, such as fresh fruits or frozen chicken. This automated process will help to fulfill items that are needed in stores, or to complete online grocery orders from customers. Given that store pickup and delivery drove the company’s 22 percent e-commerce gains in the United States, this particular move makes sense for expanding their grocery offerings and fulfilling customer desires and needs.

What does this mean for the customer? This means that it will be even easier to get fresh and frozen groceries delivered to you from Walmart, and wouldn’t even require you to go to the store. Because these distribution centers have twice the amount of storage capacity compared to a traditional site, this means there are more groceries available to choose from, making it easier for you to get what you need.

News of these new distribution centers are on the heels of Walmart’s recent announcement to expand their grocery offerings through a new line of in-store products called Bettergoods. This line includes 300 new grocery products that range in price between $2 and $15, with a majority of them under $5 to keep to Walmart’s promise to “save money, live better.” These items include all kinds of frozen and pantry staples including frozen foods and desserts, dairy, snacks, beverages, pasta, soups, chocolate, and coffee. Some of these even include new plant-based offerings at low prices.

Between the expansion of their distribution centers, the increased interest in grocery delivery from customers, and the new line of groceries that is slowly being added to shelves, Walmart might be your new go-to for all of your grocery needs.
