Walmart Just Launched a “I Can’t Believe It’s Not Target” Home Line
When we think of Walmart, we think of Ree Drummond appliances swathed in floral prints, yellow smiley faces, low prices, and the viral yodeling sensation who made it big by performing by the checkout lines. But starting today, we now also think of it for its stunning new home collection, M oDRN.
Launched this morning on Walmart. com, Jet. com, and Hayneedle.com, the new online-only brand reminds us of Target’s Thresh\old and Project 62 lines — in terms of price, style, and quality.
The line consists of three collections: Retro Glam, Refined Industrial, and Scandinavian Minimal. With almost 650 items in the whole line, there’s all sorts of furniture, kitchen gear, home decor, and more (think: barware, dinnerware, stools, dining tables, rugs, planters, etc.) And everything is made with high-end materials (which a rep credited to to Hayneedle’s relationship with top-notch manufacturers) and comes with low price tags (credited to Walmart’s immense buying power). We’re talking real Carrera marble, white oak, Sunbrella fabric (on the outdoor stuff), quality faux leather, and so on.
The prices are a little high compared to other Walmart prices, but that same rep says the MoDRN stuff is “20 to 40 percent less than similar items at specially retailers.” And because the line is only available online, the stuff isn’t exactly being compared to the products in stores.
We browsed the collection and picked out some of our favorite items for the kitchen and dining room. Take a look and let us know what you think!
Made specifically for smaller spaces, this table is a typical 48 inches in diameter, but the opened steel base keeps the whole thing from overpowering a room.
We’re not sure which color Marni chair we love more: the burgundy, rose, or teal. Or even the gray or the white! It’s impossible to choose. Bonus points for the fact that the velvet is treated to hold up extra-well over time.
3. MoDRN Glam Marni Glass Dining Table, $399
Here’s an Art Deco table if we ever saw one! The bottom is brass-plated and the tempered glass is as durable as the table is gorgeous.
4. MoDRN Scandinavian Metal Dining Chair with Cushion, $129 for two
Perhaps our favorite find in the entire line, we’ve seen ONE similar chair retail for more than $400. And this is $129 for two!
We love that this brass-plated base keeps appearing on items throughout the line (like that glass table and the velvet chairs). You can go for a matching look or pick one to stand alone and make a statement.
At a kitchen store, the serving bowl on its own would cost $40. But at Walmart, you get the bowl, plus servers and four salad bowls.
In one of the catalog shots we saw, this bookcase was being used in a dining room to hold cookbooks, plates, and various barware. And that sparked an idea: This would make a great sideboard in a small dining room. Or even a makeshift pantry and coffee station in a tiny kitchen.
It’s no secret how much we love ourselves some speckled dishes around here, and this set is no exception. The 12-piece porcelain set includes four dinner plates, salad plates, and bowls.
Not only is this a great price to pay for a 10-piece tool set, but it’s also a great price to pay for a good-looking 10-piece tool set.
A classy take on color blocking, this sturdy tray would look nice on a coffee table, bar, or making its way from the kitchen to the dining room table.
