My love of a morning smoothie knows no bounds. A green smoothie, a berry smoothie, a smoothie loaded with enough peanut butter and cocoa powder it’s almost not a smoothie: I’ll take one of that, that, and that.

The one thing I don’t love about smoothies? How tough it is to reach the bottom of the blender when it’s time to drink them! Because, if I’m making a smoothie, I want every last bit in my glass. In truth, the same goes for blended sauces, soups, and nut butters. I want every last blended bit — and I always tried, and failed, to get it all! A spoon won’t cut it (unless you want your knuckles covered in whatever you’re blending) and regular spatulas are just too short or wide to effectively get at the base of the blender.

But it turns out the maker of my favorite blender, Vitamix, actually has the perfect tool for this (very) specific task: Meet the silicone blender spatula!

The blender spatula has a long, narrow head that reaches the bottom of the blender and scrapes along the blender’s sides with ease. The end of its head curves up slightly, making it a very ergonomic blender scraper (it can even wedge its way under the blender’s blades). The silicone material makes it strong enough for scraping, but nimble enough for, well, scraping and getting into tight spaces. I’ve had mine for months and it’s proved to be durable, showing no rips or tears, despite being shoved in a blender almost daily. It’s also dishwasher-safe, for easy cleanup, however, I usually hand-wash mine alongside my blender.

Look at that length!

While I have the Vitamix spatula, there are other, similarly designed spatulas, like this almost-identical one available at Sur la Table and this one from KitchenAid. Why am I giving you all of these options? Because if you drink smoothies even once a month, you absolutely need a blender spatula — no matter where it comes from.
