This week the Huffington Post tipped us off to the ultimate tool for food data nerds: Google Correlate. Billed as "Google Trends in reverse," it allows you to compare search trends over time or across the United States. Read on to find out which state loves pie and which two love mustard!
Utah was a stand-out in the searches for Top Chef, pancakes and chocolate chip cookies. As you can see above, people in Utah apparently have zero interest in Bravo's cooking reality show, but they do love making pancakes.
According to the Huffington Post's results, Maine loves pie and Montana and South Carolina have a soft spot for mustard. Pretty much everyone wants dinner party menus.
We spent a fun 15 minutes searching for random food-related words on Google Correlate. Occasionally searches will turn up some very odd correlations, like mayonnaise and mildew prevention. Or cupcakes and Persian TV. What does it mean?
Found any interesting trends or correlations? Let us know in the comments!
