Sending and receiving cards is one of the best things about the holidays, but there are some drawbacks to this tradition. After you read your holiday cards a couple times, and then hang on the fridge for a month, what do you do with them? Hoard them all in a box? Feel bad for throwing them away? Step in: the holiday cookie card. These treats are an edible, loving way to tell someone you’re thinking about them.

In order to get the minute detail that these cookies require, you either need a wooden skewer and food coloring for small designs and letters OR you could just use colored icing for big decorations. There is a lot of detail that goes into making these cookies, but they are totally worth the extra effort.

Here are some cookie holiday card designs to inspire you:

1. Chalkboard Art-Inspired Cookies The Simple, Sweet Life (pictured above): Don’t worry guys, this isn’t actually chalkboard paint. It’s just black royal icing being super magical and beautiful.

2. Christmas Card Cookies The Simple, Sweet Life: Attention all artists and perfectionists! This super cute cookie is for you.
