Le Creuset is one of those brands from which you can always find new items to build out your collection. Of course, there are the classic Le Creuset items everyone should start with: the iconic Dutch oven and baking dishes. Then, there are smaller pieces you can add, like the mini cocottes and mugs, that you’ll use just as often. And of course, the brand is always coming out with new, innovative pieces and seasonal items that are hard to resist. (The summery fruit cocottes are my personal favorite.)

Whether you’re just starting out or want a workhorse of a pan that costs less than the Dutch oven, Le Creuset just launched a piece that’ll be the perfect fit. The Traditional Round Balti Dish is suited for meals that include marinated meats, veggies, and spices, but it works for everything from stews to stir-fry. Plus, it’s significantly less hefty than the brand’s typical Dutch oven — Le Creuset claims that it’s the most lightweight cast iron by quart on the market. Get the full rundown on this versatile piece below!

What Is the Traditional Round Balti Dish?

This wok-like dish can do it all — the food can be cooked and served all in one. It has a black satin enamel interior, which develops a natural patina over time, minimizes sticking, and heats evenly and quickly, like all Le Creuset cookware. It requires no seasoning, either, so it’ll be ready to go right away. Similar to a wok, the Balti dish has high sides and a spacious capacity to cut down on splattering, saving you cleanup time later. (The fact that it’s dishwasher-safe saves you even more hassle.) Though the sides are curved, the flat base keeps it steady on the stove. From there, you can use the ergonomic handles for seamless transport.
