I live my life by extremes when it comes to cooking. I’m typically either spending all day preparing a feast or pairing groceries into a so-simple dinner. For the days that I “just can’t” and would rather turn delicious grocery finds into a makeshift dinner, I look to Trader Joe’s.
I’ve got a catalog of easy recipes that require minimal ingredients, like my favorite pasta dinner made with TJ’s Caramelized Onion Dip or the Giant Baked Beans in Tomato Sauce I eat with Sourdough Sandwich Bread. These two-ingredient dishes get dinner (and then some) on the table for just $5.
When I’m looking for something with a bit more pizzazz, but just as simple to assemble, I make my favorite steak dinner with the Trader Joe’s Chimmichurri Sauce and Grassfed Beef Sirloin Roast. And yes, it’s also just two ingredients.
What Makes This 2-Ingredient Trader Joe’s Chimichurri Sirloin Roast So Good?
I’ve always been skeptical of precooked steak because I like mine cooked a certain way. Trader Joe’s Grassfed Beef Sirloin Roast comes precut and precooked at medium-rare, and once reheated, actually retains some of its pinkish color. It doesn’t get tough (I promise it doesn’t taste like you’re gnawing on tires).
While it’s on the pricier side at $11.99 for 1 pound, it lasts me about three to four portions when I’m eating alone, and about the same when served to guests.
Now, that chimichurri! This Argentinian-inspired sauce is one of my all-time Trader Joe’s favorites and the key to what makes this dish so good. It’s savory, herbaceous, and tastes incredible on practically everything — especially meat like beef. The sauce has a rich blend of cilantro, parsley, vinegar, garlic, and a slight kick of red pepper that brightens out the meatiness of the steak.
Together, the two are a powerhouse of flavor, perfect on sandwiches, in salads, and even eaten directly off a plate.
How to Make My 2-Ingredient Trader Joe’s Chimichurri Sirloin Roast
It feels almost silly writing out a recipe for this because it’s that simple to make. All you have to do is heat the sirloin according to the instructions on the box. It gives options for microwaving and baking, and I typically opt for a slightly longer cook time in the oven to get some color and slightly crispy bits on the steak (but you do you!). Once it’s heated, I spoon the chimichurri sauce over it as is, and before you know it, dinner is done!
While I have eaten this on its own as a dinner (all of the herbs in chimichurri make it like a salad, right?), it’s also great on some corn tortillas as a quick taco or served with some steamed rice.
Find it in stores: Trader Joe’s Chimmichurri Sauce, $2.99 for 8 ounces; Trader Joe’s Grassfed Beef Sirloin Roast, $11.99 for 16 ounces
