I Don’t Buy Bacon Anymore — I Grab This $4 Trader Joe’s Breakfast Staple Instead
I don’t know about you, but 90% of the time, I wake up in the morning absolutely famished. But the last thing I want to do is put a lot of effort into what I make for breakfast. (I save my extravagant brunches for the weekend!) To keep things simple, I re-create the same morning meal day after day. I never get bored though because I’ve found the most breakfast upgrade at my home away from home (aka Trader Joe’s)!
Each week, I stock up on Trader Joe’s Sweet Apple Sausage. The 12-ounce package contains five chicken sausage links and sells for $4.20. They’re perfect for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. However, I tend to eat them in the morning with a fried egg, sliced mozzarella cheese, and my favorite bread, Schmidt/Old Tyme 647 Italian.
What Makes Trader Joe’s Sweet Apple Sausage So Great
The item isn’t new. In fact, it was introduced in 2004 making it an OG product at the famous budget grocery store. According to the Trader Joe’s website, it’s a “customer favorite” and has “large pieces of chopped apples, pure Vermont maple syrup, and a hint of cinnamon spice.” I can report from experience that it truly tastes as delicious as it sounds, striking the perfect balance between sweet yet savory.
Plus, I always feel good after eating it. Since it’s made from chicken, it has less fat than traditional pork sausage without sacrificing any of the flavor. They come already cooked, so all you need to do is heat them up before indulging in what I can honestly say is the best chicken sausage I’ve ever tasted!
The Best Way to Use Trader Joe’s Sweet Apple Sausage
If you want to incorporate the sausage into a lunch or dinner, try mixing it with farro and apples like @traderjoes recommends on Instagram. Or you can be like me and use it as a swap for bacon in your breakfast sandwiches. (You won’t miss the bacon!) Just make sure to butterfly the sausage before browning it, cut the sandwich in half diagonally, and top it off with a little hot sauce. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed.
