A Reader Just Surprised Us with a Super-Cool Trader Joe’s Hack

We’ve already told you, dear readers, about how much we love the freshly cut blooms from Trader Joe’s. They’re gorgeous and last a while, and the price of a bouquet just can’t be beat (trust us, we’ve checked). But it turns out, according to one clever reader, there’s another reason to love TJ’s floral selection that we didn’t know about. Hint: It’ll help out in your fridge. “I have a TJ’s hack I can’t stop marveling at,” says Kitchn and Apartment Therapy Reader, Loren Camilleri. “The flowering bulb vase (available during the spring for $2.99) is the ideal fridge herb keeper.”

Always a tad skeptical, we didn’t believe Loren until we saw a photo of her hack with our own eyes. Behold!

So how did Loren come to this realization in the first place? Here’s the story of her convenient discovery: “Earlier this season, I bought three or four of the blooming bulbs filled with big, beautiful blooms. One grocery day, I came home with a few piles of herbs and I reached for a glass in the cabinet to store them. There the bulb vases were, looking right at me, so I gave them a try … immediate perfection.”

Since then, Loren has put these baby bulb vases to the test in more ways than one. “My beloved chives noticeably lasted much longer than when stored in a paper towel blanket or a tipsy little jar. They also work well for fluffier herbs like cilantro that have a natural thin stalk and leafy top,” she says.

It solves a recurring paint point for Loren: the risk that her herbs stored in Ball jars will topple over and leave a mess in her fridge. “The TJ’s vessel’s fluted bottom coupled with just the right amount of water makes the herbs stay fresh (almost) forever and won’t fall over — even bushy parsley. It may make me happier than it should,” says Loren.
