When it comes to street food, gyros are one of the best. Crispy slices of thinly shaved meat are wrapped in a pillowy flatbread, then drizzled with a cool and creamy sauce. It’s just right for devouring on a park bench. If a gyro stand isn’t in your neighborhood, there’s no need to invest in a vertical roaster — Trader Joe’s has you covered.

The 3 Essential Gyro Components

In my mind, it’s not a gyro without crispy seasoned meat, soft flatbread, and a creamy sauce. When the craving for a shaved meat sammie hits, I head to Trader Joe’s. Their thin strips of gyro meat are made with beef and lamb, and are seasoned with lemon, garlic, and oregano.

Once home, sear the slices until sizzling and crispy on each side and then pile onto warm garlic Naan bread. Drizzle with creamy cucumber dip to finish. While those three ingredients satisfy my gyro cravings, adding salty feta, diced cucumbers, and shaved red onion is never a bad thing.

  2. To assemble, layer 4 to 5 gyro slices onto each piece of naan, then spoon the tzatziki dip on top of each one.
