The “Absolutely Delicious” Trader Joe’s Chicken Find Hiding in the Freezer Section (I’m Making It All Summer!)
I’m passionate about the frozen food section at Trader Joe’s. There are so many great goodies to find in those deep freezers — tasty treats, cheesy pastas, ready-to-go dinners that make my weeknights even easier (or items that make dinner a breeze, like this three-ingredient pasta). I always find myself stocking up when I make a Trader Joe’s run. However, out of all of the items that I’ve found in the Trader Joe’s frozen section, there’s one in particular that had me falling deeply in love. No, it’s not the Cacio e Pepe Gnocchi, although that dish is nothing short of heavenly. It’s actually the Grilled Chimichurri Chicken Thigh Skewers.
These skewers are part of the new summer groceries that just hit shelves at Trader Joe’s, and I’m honestly shocked by them. First, they’re very easy to prepare. These skewers are fully cooked and ready to heat and serve, so a few minutes in the oven (or air fryer!) is all you need. Second, the price is pretty awesome at $7.49 a bag. Sure, they may be pricier compared to other Trader Joe’s frozen dinners, but when you think about the quality of this product and the amount of time you’re saving not making chicken skewers and homemade chimichurri sauce, the cost certainly outweighs all that effort.
Then, of course, there’s the taste, which won me over in the first place. The texture of the chicken is perfect. They aren’t dry and they don’t taste like cardboard; the chicken is juicy, like it had been marinating in a tasty chimichurri before hitting the grill. The chimichurri is also delightful. The sauce is herby yet not overpowering, making these chicken skewers ideal for adding to any of your favorite dishes. Maybe for this herby chicken grain bowl?
Personally, I love that these chicken skewers make it easy to throw together a protein-packed dinner without having to make the effort of cooking chicken myself. To be honest, I hate cooking chicken; I’m always freaked out that I’ll undercook it and make everyone around me sick, so I always overcook it, which doesn’t make for a pleasant chicken to eat.
However, this chicken skewer is tasty and already fully cooked, and has upgraded my weeknight dinners without having to even fire up the grill. I’m dreaming of creamy herby chicken pasta, or kebabs wrapped in fluffy pita with fresh cut veggies and a homemade tzatziki. So yes, these skewers will have a permanent spot in my freezer, and I’ll beg Trader Joe’s to never take them away if I have to.
