I Tried Trader Joe’s Eggnog-Flavored Greek Yogurt — Here Are My Thoughts
Calling all eggnog fans! Trader Joe’s now has a Greek yogurt that tastes like your favorite holiday drink. User @katwiersum posted a photo of the festive yogurt in her hands, and I immediately thought Wow, I’ve got to try this. So, naturally, I messaged her and asked which TJ’s she went to in Chicago. And then of course I knew I needed to add another errand to my day.
I found the yogurt, brought it home, and opened it. The first thing I noticed was the color, which was pretty orange and yellow. I thought it’d be much lighter in color — more like a vanilla-flavored Greek yogurt — but it was thick, orange-yellow, and super creamy-looking. It was a little runnier in the middle and thicker on the sides, but it was still definitely creamy and smooth. To be honest, I was a little scared. The color threw me off a lot.
To be fair, the rich texture is because it’s made with whole milk, so there is more fat in it and it has that luxurious, silky texture. As for nutrition, it is gluten-free and made with milk, cream, nutmeg, turmeric, annatto, and an eggnog-flavored base with sugar and egg yolk in it. It’s definitely higher in calories, fat, and sugar than a basic Greek yogurt you’d find in a plain or low-fat variety. There are 180 calories in the yogurt, with 7 grams of fat, and 15 grams of sugar.
For taste, it did taste like eggnog. (Good job, Trader Joe’s!) I wasn’t a huge fan, but that’s because I don’t like drinking eggnog, so I am biased. If you are an eggnog drinker during the holidays, THIS WILL BE YOUR JAM. I PROMISE.
